About Us

We are two sister’s raised on a farm in Illinois, now passionate gardeners in New Jersey and Iowa. Farming has been in our family for generations, dating back to the early 1900s! Our great grandfather, George H. Kunkel purchased the first family farm which stretched over 80 acres. George married our great grandmother, Rebecca Louise Long, in the fall of 1907 and raised 12 children on this farm. One of those children was our father, Hank Kunkel. He later took over the responsibilities of the farm and extended it an additional 100 acres, bring the total acreage to 180. We grew up tending to the same fields that our grandparents and parents did before us. As we grew older, our siblings began to move off the farm and start our own families. Despite being off the farm, we still wanted to have a piece of home in our backyard. 

While shopping at our local gardening stores, we realized that the only Deer repellents available were infused with chemicals and other unnatural ingredients. As mothers to a Boxer and Golden Retriever, we did not want our fur babies to be eating these repellents in our gardens. We decided to create an all natural deer repellent, that utilizes essential oils to safely deter those pesky deer. Deer Hightail It aims to protect all wildlife and encourages you to use all natural products in all aspects of gardening.
